Brief Project Synopsis:

It has been demonstrated through national and regional programs that staff nurses can become powerful change agents for quality initiatives that directly impact patient outcomes with the appropriate education and support.  To that end the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City embarks on a new program that demonstrates nurses contribute to the national quality agenda, one nurse at a time.

The Bi-State Nursing Workforce Center will focus on improving the nursing environment in order to retain quality nurses within the community.  The project will conduct a survey to identify work environment issues, create a cohort of nurses to implement innovative change projects and conduct a regional conference on nursing workforce innovation.

Project Goals and Objectives:

Our goals are to create a cohort of staff nurses with competencies to implement unit-based change projects that significantly improve selected patient outcomes. These nurses will be part of a Clinical Scene Investigator (CSI) Academy. A model for process improvement will be developed and implemented with hospital executive commitment. This model will then be developed for replication across the bi-state area and beyond.
