Brief Project Synopsis:

The Greater San Antonio Healthcare Foundation was created in 1996 to provide support for charitable, scientific and educational endeavors that improve the health of the people of South Texas. Under its auspices, The Nurse Executive Forum was organized with the collaborative leadership of the academic nursing and hospital-based nursing executives, coming together in 2001 following a region-wide Health Summit lead by the community’s senior policy makers.  Addressing the nursing shortage issue, identified as a critical industry and community issue, was taken as an over-arching goal that the Nurse Executive Forum committed to.  Through its collaborative efforts, this project’s goals have been identified as noted below, with the enhanced benefit now realized in the national organized collaboration of being able to coordinate directly with other Partners Investing in Nursing’s Future.

Project Goals and Objectives:

The specific goals of this project are:

(1) Identify barriers to clinical placement of nursing students in San Antonio Hospitals and create an electronic clinical placement tracking system;

(2) Address modification of clinical education and develop a preceptor model of clinical education; and

(3) to enhance the pipeline for nursing faculty.
