About Us
Partners Investing in Nursing's Future (PIN) is a partnership of the Northwest Health Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to support the capacity, involvement and leadership of local foundations to advance the nursing profession in their own communities.
Nurses are the largest component of the health care workforce, and their vigilance is critical to keeping patients safe and healthy. When people are most vulnerable – experiencing chest pains in a hospital emergency department, recuperating from stroke in a skilled nursing facility, learning to care for a newborn at the pediatrician’s office, or managing a chronic condition in their own home – nurses are the health care providers they are most likely to encounter, spend the greatest amount of time with, and depend on for their recovery. The stability and quality of our system relies on a sufficient supply of appropriately educated and skilled nurses.
Despite the fact that a downturn in the economy has lessened the current shortage of nurses in some settings, our nation faces a growing shortage of experienced nurses in the near future. While the current economic recession may positively impact the nursing shortage in many parts of the country in the short term, this lull also provides an opportunity for philanthropy to develop stronger relationships with nursing leadership at a crucial time. Partnerships between nursing and philanthropic organizations can focus on building commitment to creating innovative and collaborative solutions to the long-term challenge of ensuring a competent and experienced nurse workforce.
- Partners Investing In Nursing's Future (PIN) is helping regional foundations develop local solutions.
- As nursing workforce issues vary across communities, so must the solutions.
- PIN is a unique collaboration of the philanthropic community to foster innovations that help address the nursing crisis.
